The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Togian babirusa inhabits a small archipelago near Sulawesi. It uses forests but has also been observed in secondary scrub, gardens, plantations and coastal areas. It can swim, with reports of crossings between islands. Its restricted range makes habitat conditions on each island highly important.
It feeds on fallen fruit, tubers, other plant parts and invertebrates. It may loosen soil with its limbs rather than rooting intensively with its snout like many pigs. In warmer hours it rests in shade or mud. After mud bathing it may rub against trees.
Males often remain solitary, while females form small groups with young. Animals may meet at wallows and communicate through various calls. The species' ecology remains poorly known.
