About the project

Nature’s diversity.
One shared scale.

Sometimes two animals side by side say more than numbers alone.

Hapi Animals lets you compare animal sizes and explore their diversity. We bring silhouettes, clearly defined measurements and sources together in one accessible space.

Method

From data
to a shared board.

Data

We select a reference measurement and explain what it describes: height, length or span.

Measurement points

We calibrate the framing and selected points on the silhouette. Side and front views have separate parameters.

Shared scale

We convert the silhouettes to a shared unit and fit the whole board to the screen.

Calibration details

The distance Δp between image points is linked to the reference measurement D. The factor k = D / Δp gives the scale in cm/px. The renderer converts coordinates to a shared unit of length.

Cropping, repositioning and mirroring preserve the assigned measurement. Silhouettes are not resized to fill identical frames.

A shared scale does not remove uncertainty in the data. Size depends on the individual, sex and age; profiles identify estimates and reconstructions.

Materials

Sources and transparency.

We use photographs and illustrations, including reconstructions prepared with AI assistance. Relevant profiles and photographs identify material origins, authors and sources.

We continue to expand and correct the collection. If you notice an error, send us a link to the comparison or profile. A reliable source will help us investigate.
