Images, sources and attribution.
Animal photographs retain the licences stated beside each image. Each gallery provides author credit, a licence link and a link to the original source. Consult those terms before reusing a photograph; different images may have different conditions.
Comparison silhouettes are illustrations prepared for this project. Their purpose is to explain relative size using the stated measurements. They should not be treated as unaltered wildlife photographs or evidence of an individual animal’s exact appearance.
Measurements and natural-history information are accompanied by sources in animal profiles. Estimates, reconstructions and limits of interpretation are identified where relevant.
