The Sunda slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) is a nocturnal Southeast Asian primate. It inhabits tropical forests, scrub and some plantation landscapes. It spends most active time above ground.
It moves slowly and carefully along branches, maintaining a firm grip with hands and feet. It eats plant exudates, fruit and small animals, especially invertebrates. Quiet movement allows it to search vegetation without frequent sudden leaps between trees.
Adults often feed separately, although their activity areas may overlap. Scents and calls facilitate contact. It has an unusual mammalian defence mechanism: a brachial-gland secretion contributes to its venomous bite. Capture for trade and forest loss reduce the security of these secretive arboreal animals.
Tropikalne lasy nizinne, plantacje i zarośla.
