Sika deer — size comparison — facts and sources

The sika deer (Cervus nippon) originates in East Asia. It inhabits forests, scrub and reedbeds and also occurs outside its native range through introductions. Males have branching antlers, while a spotted coat is among the species' most recognisable features.

It eats leaves, grasses and fruit. It uses feeding grounds adjoining tree and tall-vegetation cover. Seasonal plant availability affects food choice and movement. The animals are vigilant and swim well, allowing them to cross water obstacles.

Group organisation changes seasonally. During the rut males give loud calls and compete for females. Antlers are shed and regrown annually. In Japan sika have long coexisted with people in temple landscapes as well.

Dorosłe zwierzęta mają zróżnicowaną wielkość zależnie od płci i populacji; plansza używa porównawczego punktu około 80 cm w barku, w zakresie 64–109 cm.
