The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The golden hamster is familiar in captivity, but its wild populations originate from a restricted Middle Eastern area. It inhabits dry steppes and farmland where it can dig burrows. Daytime rest underground allows it to avoid heat and exposed open space.
In the evening it searches for seeds and other plant parts. It also eats insects. It stores food in its shelter, repeatedly travelling between burrow and feeding grounds. Cheek pouches help transport collected supplies.
Adults live alone and strongly defend their areas. Scent left by flank glands conveys information to other hamsters. The female alone cares for blind, helpless young. Wild breeding timing relates to seasons providing favourable conditions for offspring development.
nos → nasada ogona; ogon wyłączony. MSD Veterinary Manual: głowa i tułów 170–180 mm, ogon 12 mm.
