Eastern spotted skunk — size comparison — facts and sources

The eastern spotted skunk uses forests, tall grasslands and rocky areas. It shelters in burrows it digs or finds abandoned.

It feeds chiefly at night on insects, small rodents, eggs and fruit. Diet changes seasonally. Agile and active, it efficiently searches sheltered places for prey.

Before using its defensive secretion it may stand on its forefeet, raising its hindquarters and tail. This distinctive warning gives an attacker a chance to withdraw before further defence.
