Canada lynx — size comparison — facts and sources

The Canada lynx lives mainly in northern North American forests. It uses places where woodland alternates with suitable hare habitat. Dense fur and hairy feet help it travel through winter landscapes. Sheltered forest patches offer rest.

Snowshoe hares are its staple food. Their population changes strongly affect lynx living conditions, prey availability and breeding success. When hares are scarce it also hunts other animals. It usually tracks prey alone, using patient stalking and a short chase rather than prolonged running.

Adults most often stay apart, communicating through scent and calls. The mother cares for young in shelter. Growing siblings may accompany her hunting and later stay together for a time. Food availability affects independence timing and the search for an individual area.
