The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Burmese python is a large constrictor from South and South-East Asia. It inhabits forests, wetlands, grasslands and rocky foothills. Irregular dark patches on a paler background conceal its outline among vegetation. It swims well, and young animals also use branches.
It mainly hunts birds and mammals, catching them with the mouth, constricting them and swallowing them whole. Heat-sensitive receptors on the head help detect warm-blooded animals in dim light. Much time is spent in shelter, with feeding influenced by temperature and suitable prey.
Females lay eggs and coil around the clutch. Hatchlings find their own food and shelter. Introduced populations outside the native range, including in Florida, affect local ecosystems through their predation on native mammals.
