The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The black wallaroo has a restricted range in western Arnhem Land. It is associated with sandstone plateaus and areas with large boulders. Around rocks it uses various vegetation types, from open woodland to grassy patches. Retreats allow it to avoid heat and remain difficult to observe.
It takes grasses and other available plants. It is very wary and can retreat rapidly on noticing a person. Much activity occurs at night and during cooler daytime hours, although cloudy weather may alter this rhythm. This makes wild behavioural studies difficult.
Adults occur alone or in pairs, sometimes with young. Little is known of wild reproduction; large pouch young have been observed in the dry season. Males have dark fur, while females are paler.
