The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Bengal tiger inhabits forests, wetlands and tall grasslands in South Asia, including the Sundarbans mangroves. It has a powerful body, strong forelegs and an orange coat crossed by dark stripes. Each animal’s pattern is distinctive, allowing researchers to identify individuals in photographs. Bengal refers to a geographical form of tiger.
It mainly hunts deer, wild boar and other hoofed mammals, stalking under cover before attacking at close range. It is a strong swimmer and enters water to cool down. An uneaten kill may be covered with vegetation and revisited over several days.
Adult tigers usually live alone. Scent marks, scratches on trees and calls communicate their presence. A male’s range may overlap those of several females. Females raise the cubs and gradually teach them the skills needed to hunt independently.
