African rock python — size comparison — facts and sources
The African rock python is a large constrictor of sub-Saharan Africa. It inhabits savannas, forests, rocky areas and watersides, often choosing well-sheltered resting places. Pale and dark blotches help conceal a coiled snake among vegetation.
Adults remain mainly near the ground but can climb and swim capably. They ambush birds and mammals, gripping prey with teeth, subduing it through constriction and swallowing it whole. Heat-sensitive pits on the head help detect warm-blooded animals even in poor light.
It usually lives alone outside breeding periods. A female lays eggs and remains with the clutch. Hatchlings feed independently, but their small size leaves them more vulnerable to predators. Shelters near water and among rocks serve for both rest and safety.
Podstawą skali jest 400 cm długości całkowitej. Ciało w ujęciu bocznym jest niemal wyprostowane; wysokość obrysu wynika z jego grubości, nie z wysokości zwoju. W obu ujęciach tułów pozostaje w pozycji bocznej, z lekkimi wygięciami. W drugim ujęciu tylko końcowy odcinek szyi i głowa są zwrócone do patrzącego. Skalę obu wersji ustalono z tej samej długości ciała i odpowiadającego sobie odcinka tułowia. Grubość tułowia i wysokość postawy są przybliżeniami rekonstrukcji, nie osobnymi pomiarami biologicznymi.
