The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The European perch is among the most recognisable fish in Polish lakes. Dark vertical bars contrast with greenish flanks, while lower fins show yellow, orange or red shades. Its two dorsal fins differ structurally: the front one has sharp rays and a dark patch towards its rear.
Its food changes during growth. Small individuals take small invertebrates, while larger ones increasingly catch fish. A school of young perch may share a feeding area, whereas a large individual need not remain permanently in a close group.
Back depth and colour intensity vary between individuals. It occurs in lakes and rivers with varied conditions and also in brackish water.
