The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Spanish Water Dog has a strong, balanced body and dense curly hair that may form cords when left long. Hair covers the head and hanging ears as well as the body. Coats may be solid or bicoloured. Its outline remains compact and agile without the heaviness of large guarding dogs.
It developed from local Spanish working populations. Some herded livestock, while others accompanied people fishing and working around water. These varied tasks explain why water dog does not describe its entire history. Modern breeding brought regional traditions together, retaining an active dog capable of initiative alongside people.
Quick to learn and usually attentive to familiar people, it readily joins shared tasks and notices movement and environmental changes. It may be more reserved with strangers than with its household. Independence appears in exploring new places and trying its own ideas.
