The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The medium Peruvian Hairless Dog has a light, balanced build, long legs and large ears raised when interested. In the hairless variety the skin is clearly visible, with some hair sometimes present on areas including the head. Colouring may be uniform or spotted. Fully coated dogs also occur in the breed; medium denotes one of three sizes.
In Peru it is known as viringo. Images occur on pottery from pre-Inca cultures including Mochica and Chancay. They document the region’s early hairless dogs without reconstructing every stage of the modern breed’s development. The first standard and FCI recognition in 1985 helped organise breeding of Peru’s native dog.
At home it usually shows considerable affection and follows familiar people’s activities closely. Around strangers it more often pauses to watch before making contact. It is lively and watchful, quickly noticing new sounds and movement.
