The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
Palaeophis colossaeus was a giant aquatic snake from the middle Eocene of Mali. Fossils from the Tilemsi Valley are associated with the ancient Trans-Saharan Seaway. It belonged to the extinct Palaeophiidae, rather than the modern sea-snake subfamily Hydrophiinae. Vertebrae provide most of the evidence for its size and anatomy.
Marine deposits and vertebral anatomy support aquatic habits. However, its broad vertebrae do not justify reconstructing an extremely flattened, ribbon-like trunk. The board uses 8.1 m from a specific regression for specimen CNRST-SUNY 290. The larger 12.3 m result concerns another specimen and a different vertebral measurement. Head shape, tail shape and colour remain cautious reconstructions.
Plansza stosuje pierwszy, jawnie wskazany model i okaz.
