Norwegian Forest Cat — size comparison — facts and sources

The Norwegian Forest Cat has strong bone, long legs and a triangular head with a straight profile. Large ears often carry tufts. Its semi-long coat has a dense undercoat and longer hairs that protect against moisture. The ruff, hind-leg furnishings and bushy tail become particularly full in winter.

A natural breed associated with Norway, where it is known as the skogkatt, it developed among local cats adapted to cool, damp conditions. Later breeding preserved the strong, semi-longhaired type. Maturity is slow: full body development and coat can take several years.

Usually friendly and interested in family life, it chooses the intensity of contact. It enjoys high observation points and climbs and jumps capably. Play reveals strength and coordination, while rest can be independent. Quiet companionship may quickly give way to lively activity when something moves.
