The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The rainbow lorikeet has a blue head, green wings and back, and an orange-yellow breast. A long tapered tail creates a slender outline. It inhabits eastern Australian forests, parks and gardens. Noisy flocks travel between flowering trees and gather at communal evening roosts.
Brushlike papillae cover the tongue tip, helping collect nectar and pollen. It also eats fruit, seeds and small insects. Feeding sites change with flowering seasons; a profusely flowering tree may attract many birds jostling among flowers and calling loudly.
It nests in a cavity, often in a eucalyptus limb. Both partners prepare the site and feed young, while the female incubates. Chicks remain in the sheltered chamber until developing plumage sufficient for flight.
Długość od końca dzioba do końca ogona: 28 cm (dolna granica opublikowanego zakresu, mniejszy przykład dorosłego ptaka); nie jest to wysokość stojącej papugi ani średnia populacji. Zakres źródłowy: 28–32 cm rozmiaru całkowitego wraz z ogonem. Wysokość tej postawy, około 13,7 cm, wynika z proporcji ilustracji. Przód zachowuje wysokość boku; szerokość i perspektywa pozostają przybliżone. Masa zachowuje zakres źródłowy i nie jest przypisana zilustrowanemu osobnikowi.
