Zebra shark — size comparison — facts and sources

The zebra shark inhabits Indo-Pacific reefs and adjoining sandy bottoms. Appearance changes greatly with age: young are dark with pale bands; adults are paler and spotted. A long tail forms a substantial part of its outline.

By day it often rests on the bottom, seeking molluscs, crustaceans and small fish at night. A narrow snout reaches reef crevices. The female lays large, cased eggs attached to the substrate, where embryos develop until hatching.
