The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The yellow-necked mouse is associated with wooded areas and, in British populations, particularly old woodland. It may also use hedges and gardens. It travels both on the forest floor and along branches, being an adept climber. It usually remains active at night.
It feeds mainly on tree seeds and fruit, supplementing its diet with green plant parts and invertebrates. It may store food in extensive underground passages. Nests occur in burrows among roots but also in tree hollows and other sheltered places above ground.
Areas used by neighbours may overlap. During the breeding season the female rears successive litters. The young are born naked and blind, and the characteristic neck colouring appears during development.
