Yacare caiman — size comparison — facts and sources
The yacare caiman (Caiman yacare) is associated with the Pantanal wetlands and neighbouring river basins. The Pantanal is an extensive mosaic of flooded areas rather than one continuous water body. As water recedes, feeding and resting sites concentrate into smaller areas, changing the caimans’ distribution.
Animals gather at permanent waters in the dry season and disperse after flooding. It eats fish, molluscs and aquatic invertebrates.
A female builds a nest near water and protects her offspring.
