Wrinkle-faced bat — size comparison — facts and sources

The wrinkle-faced bat has a broad face with deep folds of bare skin. Despite belonging to the leaf-nosed bat family, it lacks the typical large nose leaf. Brownish fur, whitish shoulder spots and patterned wing membranes complete its unusual appearance.

This fruit-eating bat lives in forests of Central America and northern South America. It feeds after dark and spends the day beneath leaves. It crushes fruit with powerful jaws.

Males have an additional pale skin fold that they can pull up in front of the face like a mask. During courtship they lower it when a female approaches.
