Wild Bactrian camel — size comparison — facts and sources

The wild Bactrian camel is a separate species from the domestic Bactrian camel. It inhabits rocky deserts and dry steppes of the Gobi. A long, dense winter coat protects it from cold and is shed as conditions warm.

Small, mobile herds feed on tough grasses, shrubs and salt-tolerant plants. They travel across extensive desert areas in search of food and scattered water sources. Their appearance and measurements should not be treated as interchangeable with those of domestic camels.
