The white-footed mouse occurs chiefly in eastern and central North America. Abundant in warm, dry forests and scrub, it can also use fields and suburban surroundings.
At night it searches for seeds, nuts, fruit, fungi and insects. Diet varies with season and availability. It stores food in autumn because it remains active through cold winters.
