White-bellied duiker — size comparison — facts and sources

The white-bellied duiker inhabits equatorial forests of Central Africa. It selects mature stands and is locally associated with forests dominated by mbau trees. It rests beside buttress roots and other sheltered places. When startled it flees in a zigzag among plants.

It is active mainly by day. From forest litter it gathers ripe and unripe fruit and seeds. It supplements food with leaves, fungi and sometimes insects. It may feed beneath monkeys dropping fruit parts and twigs from the canopy.

Solitary individuals are most often observed. Fruiting-tree availability and undergrowth character can make its occurrence uneven even within one forest. Eastern and western population differences are treated differently in classifications.
