The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The western hoolock gibbon has extremely long arms and dense fur. An adult male is black with a pale band above the eyes; the female has a paler, buff coat. It has no tail. Details of its white markings are among the features distinguishing it from the eastern hoolock.
It spends most of its life in forest canopies of northeastern India, Bangladesh and western Myanmar. It moves suspended below branches, transferring its weight from one arm to the other. It supplements fruit with leaves, shoots and flowers. A typical group contains a pair and their growing offspring. Loud calls help maintain territory. Roads, plantations and fields divide forests, hindering movement without descending to the ground.
Przykład 55 cm długości głowy i tułowia. Sati i Alfred (2001), za Animal Info, podają zwykle 46–63 cm; Cambridge State of the Apes przytacza szerszy zakres 45–81 cm dla huloków.
