Western green lizard — size comparison — facts and sources

The western green lizard is large and strongly built. Males have green backs with fine dark dots and distinctly blue throats during breeding. Females are more variable and may retain pale lengthwise stripes.

Its long tail tapers gradually, reaching around twice the combined head-and-body length. It uses warm sites with vegetation and cover. It is closely related to the European green lizard, Lacerta viridis, from which it is recognised as a separate species.

It eats insects and other small animals.
