Water deer — size comparison — facts and sources

The water deer uses wetland landscapes, reedbeds and grassy areas with cover. Its natural range includes China and Korea. Human-introduced populations, including those in Europe, form a separate part of its distribution history.

It selects tender, nutritious plant food: young grasses, herbs and leaves. The combination of low fibre content and suitable nutritional value influences its choice of feeding places.

It has no antlers. Males use elongated canine teeth in competition and may defend territories, especially during breeding. Dense vegetation shelters adults as well as the young hiding within it.

nos → nasada ogona; ogon wyłączony. ADW podaje długość 775–1000 mm i osobno ogon 60–75 mm. Przyjęcie osi głowa–tułów jest interpretacją tych oddzielnych pól. Punkt to środek zakresu, a nie średnia populacji. Wysokość obrysu wynika z proporcji ilustracji; przód jest przybliżoną projekcją.
