The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The emerald tree monitor (Varanus prasinus) is an arboreal monitor of New Guinea and neighbouring islands. It inhabits humid lowland forests, mangroves and plantations. Green colouring blends with foliage, and a slender body distinguishes it from heavy terrestrial monitors.
It spends most of its life in trees. Long digits and a prehensile tail grip branches while it searches for food.
It eats insects, spiders and other small animals. Females lay eggs. Much reproductive information comes from captive observations.
