Tomato frog — size comparison — facts and sources

The tomato frog (Dyscophus antongilii) inhabits humid northeastern Madagascan lowlands, including areas near settlements. Females are larger and more intensely coloured than males.

A rounded body and relatively short limbs produce a stocky outline. Skin may release a sticky defensive substance. It uses ditches, cultivation and other altered habitats if shelter and slow water are available. Its precise wild behaviour is less understood than its appearance.

Food probably chiefly consists of small invertebrates. After heavy rain males call to females. Eggs and tadpoles develop in water.
