The Brazilian three-banded armadillo inhabits Brazil’s dry forests, scrub and grasslands, especially the Caatinga and Cerrado. Movable armour bands allow it to roll into a ball, protecting soft body parts.
It feeds on ants and termites. Foreclaws help it search for insects in the soil. It forages chiefly at dusk and night, usually alone. Vegetation provides cover and shelter.
