Tiger shark — size comparison — facts and sources

The tiger shark is a large shark of warm seas, occurring around reefs, in lagoons and offshore. Young have dark vertical flank stripes that give the species its name; the pattern fades with age. A broad snout and powerful teeth allow a very varied diet.

It eats fish, rays, other sharks, birds, marine mammals and carrion. As an opportunistic predator, it adjusts to available food and often hunts at night. Usually travelling alone, it may appear to swim calmly but can accelerate suddenly during an attack.
