Thorold's deer (Cervus albirostris), also called the white-lipped deer, inhabits the Tibetan Plateau. This deer is adapted to highland landscapes. Dark hair contrasts with pale muzzle markings that give it its alternative name. Adult males have branched antlers.
It occupies mountain meadows, valleys and scrub, feeding on grasses, sedges, herbs and shrubs available in the plateau's harsh climate. Snow and seasonal food changes affect feeding-site accessibility and movements.
It lives in herds, although group composition changes through the year. Broad hooves help on snow and soft ground. A dense coat reduces heat loss, while agility over uneven terrain allows use of extensive high-altitude pastures.
Na wspólnej planszy używamy 115 cm w barku. 115 cm jest zachowawczym dolnym punktem publikowanych wymiarów dużego samca; poroże, uszy i wysoko noszona głowa nie uczestniczą w skali.
