The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The common tenrec has an elongated snout and a covering combining hair with stiff spines. Native to Madagascar, it has been introduced to some other islands. It lives in forests, scrub and human-altered areas. Chiefly nocturnal, it seeks prey near the ground and may reduce activity during an unfavourable season.
It eats invertebrates, small vertebrates, fruit and other plant parts. Smell and long whiskers help search wood and rock crevices. Adults usually do not form lasting groups, except a mother with offspring.
