Tawny nurse shark — size comparison — facts and sources
The tawny nurse shark, Nebrius ferrugineus, lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific. It has a brownish body, broad head and small mouth barbels. By day it uses sheltered reef sites, often resting near the bottom.
At night it seeks crustaceans, cephalopods and fish. Suction draws prey into its mouth, helping extract it from crevices. Embryos develop inside the female and young are born alive. Reef structure therefore matters both for rest and hunting.
