Sunda pangolin — size comparison — facts and sources

The Sunda pangolin (Manis javanica) is a Southeast Asian mammal protected by large, overlapping scales. It inhabits lowland forests, scrub and cultivation edges. A long tail and powerful claws assist movement through vegetation and access to food.

It chiefly eats ants and termites, tearing open their shelters with its claws and collecting small prey with a long, sticky tongue.

Usually solitary, it feeds after dark. When threatened it can curl up, using its scales as armour. Illegal trade and capture put intense pressure on pangolins, so habitat protection must accompany reductions in exploitation.

W obronie zwija się w ciasną kulę; długi język i silne pazury pomagają mu zdobywać owady społeczne. Lasy nizinne, zarośla i obrzeża upraw.
