The strawberry poison frog (Oophaga pumilio) is a small amphibian of forests in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. It inhabits humid forests with bromeliads and leaf litter.
This small, diurnal predator has intense colours warning of skin secretions. Patterns differ greatly between populations.
It eats small arthropods. The female carries tadpoles individually to small water reservoirs in plants. She returns regularly and lays unfertilised eggs on which her offspring feed.
