Raphicerus campestris
The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The steenbok lives in open areas but also needs cover from shrubs or taller vegetation. It uses a mosaic of feeding space and hiding places.
It browses nutritious leaves and young shoots and may dig up underground plant parts. During favourable growing periods it also takes grasses. Food selection helps it use small, scattered resources that larger herbivores may overlook.
It usually lives alone or in pairs. It is associated with a particular area, marked with dung sites among other signs. Some activity occurs during cooler hours when heat is easier to avoid. Cover allows it to wait out hot periods and flee quickly from detected threats.
