The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus) occurs in Central America and northern South America. It inhabits slow rivers, lakes and wetlands. High-set eyes and nostrils allow observation while almost entirely submerged. Young take smaller foods than adults.
It hunts mainly at night, resting in water or basking ashore during the day. A distinctive bony bridge between the eyes separates it from many relatives. It eats fish, crustaceans and other small animals.
A female builds a plant-material mound and tends the young. Nest temperature influences offspring sex. Females are smaller than males.
