Sowerby’s beaked whale — size comparison — facts and sources

Sowerby’s beaked whale inhabits cold, deep North Atlantic waters. It has a slender body and distinctly elongated beak. Mature males have visible lower-jaw teeth useful for close identification.

It dives for fish and squid. Surface periods are usually short, and encounters few. Much anatomical and dietary knowledge comes from stranded animals, so whole-group behaviour is less well described than anatomy.
