The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The southern reedbuck selects landscapes where tall grasses provide shelter and nearby wet meadows supply food. It lives alone, in pairs or in small groups.
It feeds mainly on grasses and adjusts daily activity to temperature and its sense of safety. It often uses mornings, evenings and nights. When disturbed it may remain under vegetation cover, and when fleeing it gives warning whistles. Males defend occupied areas and compete for access to females.
The female usually gives birth to one calf, which initially spends its time hidden. Burning and conversion of grasslands alter the availability of resting and feeding places.
