South American sea lion — size comparison — facts and sources

The South American sea lion lives along South American coasts, forming colonies on rocky shores, islands and beaches and also occurring in estuaries. Adult males have powerful heads, thick necks and elongated hair forming a mane. Females are much smaller.

It eats fish, squid, octopuses and crustaceans. During breeding large males compete for females and defend colony sites. Outside that period animals travel between resting places and marine feeding grounds.
