The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Somali ostrich lives in dry parts of the Horn of Africa. Adult males have blue-grey neck and leg skin contrasting with a black body and white wing feathers. Females are brownish. It is now separated from the common ostrich, with which it shares flightlessness and characteristic two-toed feet.
It feeds on foot, collecting plant parts, seeds and invertebrates. It moves between productive areas and obtains some water from food. Long legs enable fast running, while wings help with sharp turns and courtship displays. Eggs are laid on the ground. Chicks soon follow adults, receiving protection while feeding.
