Smalltooth sawfish — size comparison — facts and sources

The smalltooth sawfish is a ray of warm Atlantic waters. It has an elongated sharklike body, flattened head and long rostral saw bearing many lateral teeth. Juveniles use shallow coastal habitats, while larger animals may venture deeper.

It eats fish and crustaceans. Electroreceptors on the saw detect prey even in turbid water. The saw also strikes fish during hunting but readily entangles in nets, making bycatch a serious threat.
