Silky sifaka — size comparison — facts and sources

The silky sifaka takes its name from its long, delicate fur. Its face remains almost bare, and pigmentation varies between individuals. Males may have a distinctly darkened chest patch from scent marking.

This lemur lives in wet forests of northeastern Madagascar. It rests against vertical trunks and leaps between supports using powerful hindlimbs. Its long tail aids balance but is not used for grasping. It feeds on leaves, fruit, seeds and flowers.

It has a small range, and logging and hunting threaten the remaining groups. Conservation covers both the animals themselves and forest connections between their localities.
