The Siberian sturgeon occurs in Siberia’s great rivers and Lake Baikal. It occupies deeper and shallower stretches with moderate or fast currents. It spends most of its life in freshwater, although some enter estuaries.
It spawns in the main current over gravel, stones or mixed sand and gravel. Maturation rate differs with population and living conditions. Barbels and a protrusible mouth assist feeding on river bottoms.
