Siberian ibex — size comparison — facts and sources

The Siberian ibex inhabits Central Asia’s rocky mountains. Hard hoof edges and gripping soles support sure steps on cliffs. Males are heavier than females, with longer beards and powerful curved horns, and often remain apart from females and young outside mating periods.

It eats grasses, herbs, shoots and other seasonally available plants. Steep ground provides both feeding areas and refuge from predators. Movement between high pastures permits use of vegetation emerging after snowmelt.

Males join female groups during breeding and compete for access. Young are born in sheltered rocky places where adults can escape predators quickly.
