The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The scimitar-horned oryx inhabits dry grasslands of the Sahara and Sahel. Almost white hair contrasts with a darker neck and facial mask. Both sexes have long, backward-curving horns.
It lives in herds and eats grasses, leaves, shoots and fruit, also obtaining water from food. It tolerates heat and can go long periods without a waterhole. After wild populations vanished, conservation breeding preserved it; reintroductions enabled herds to recover in Chad.
Oryks szablorogi ma niemal białą sierść odbijającą promienie słońca i ciemniejszą szyję. Jego rogi są efektowne, ale nie są wysokością biologiczną. Smithsonian podaje 1,0–1,4 m w barku i 100–210 kg. Plansza używa reprezentatywnego punktu 115 cm, a nie najwyższej wartości.
