The scalloped hammerhead has a broad head with a distinctly scalloped front edge. It lives in warm shelf waters, around islands and in the open ocean. Temporary schools may form, particularly at certain island sites.
It hunts fish, rays, cephalopods and smaller sharks. Sensory organs spread across its broad head assist exploration. Young use shallow coastal areas as important nursery grounds before moving into more open waters.
