The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The sarus crane is the tallest living flying bird. It has a grey body, very long legs and vivid red bare skin on the head and upper neck. It occurs in Asian and Australian wetlands, also using floodplain meadows and farmland.
Wading or walking through fields, it takes tubers, grain, insects and small vertebrates. Pairs maintain bonds across seasons, communicating through synchronised calls and dances involving bows, leaps and tossed vegetation.
The nest is built at ground level, usually among wetland plants. Young soon follow their parents around feeding areas. Cranes may gather in larger groups outside breeding. Wetland drainage and changes in farming reduce both food access and safe breeding sites.
Żuraw sarus osiąga 150–180 cm wysokości i jest najwyższym ptakiem zdolnym do lotu. Pary wykonują złożone tańce i często pozostają ze sobą przez wiele sezonów. Plansza używa dolnej wartości 150 cm do czubka głowy.
